United Airlines Complaint - Close-In Fee stands even for funeral bound relatives
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- I recently contacted United in order to arrange a flight for myself and my aunt to Orlando to attend a relatives funeral. I have 137,000 + miles from frequent flights and my mileage plus visa card.
Naturally, this was a last minute, unexpected travel arrangement that I had not budgeted for. "Luckily" I had all these miles I had been saving up for emergency travel such as this.
Two round trip tickets would have cost me over $700.00 but again.... I had all these miles due me right?
Well.... although I qualified to use miles, they planned to assess me with a $75.00 per person "close-in" fee because I was to fly within 72 hours of making the arrangements. While it doesn't seem like a lot, they also planned to use 50,000 miles for the privilege of flying the Nasty Skies.
I explained my plight very clearly to the woman on the phone telling her it was an emergency and not a vacation. She insisted there was nothing she could do. I then asked to speak with her supervisor and after being placed on terminal hold she returned to the line only to say that a supervisor was not available to speak to me.
United... if you are reading this... please know that I flew Air Tran instead. I plan to cancel my credit card and never use you again.
You guys really let me down when I needed you most and you left a really bad taste in my mouth. I don't plan on using you ever again and via this post I hope others will think twice before contacting you.
