Tire Chains Required Complaint - Poor Policy/Customer Service
CAREYWOOD, IDAHO -- I bought 4 full sets of chains for my ATVs in late October 07. The salesperson I spoke with told me which chains to buy, based on my ATVs' wheel sizes (Front 25x8x12 and Rear 25x10x12), and said that the ATV322 would fit both. Well, just days ago we finally got enough snow that the use of chains became valuable. Upon removing them from the original shipping box and trying them on, I found that the chains would fit the back wheels (barely) if set to the tightest adjustment possible inside and out, and then fitted with my own very tight elastic adjusters - which aren't included with the chains, by the way, inspite of what the web page implies. The chains could NOT be made to fit the front wheels - they are just too long.
I called about the problem and the first suggestion given to me was to cut the chains down. Hmmm. TCR tells me what model to buy for my size wheels and then says the CUSTOMER has to cut them to fit. Didn't sound right - that's what adjustment links are supposed to be for, I believe. The second kind suggestion from "customer service" - despite the 30-day return policy apparently in effect - was that if I paid freight to return the unused pairs of incorrect size chains that TCR would credit me for those and I could then pay for freight and new chains that actually WOULD fit my front wheels (ATV321, I was now informed). At first I was going to do so, then I got to thinking. Hmmm.
TCR advises me on the wrong size to buy for the front wheels, then offers to let ME pay freight TWICE to get the right size. I don't think so. What I decided to do instead was to cut them down to size and then let all of you know about TCRs "customer service."
