Europcar Complaint - Total Disgrace - Car Hire
LONDON GATWICK -- I have just had a big problem with Europcar if you are renting you should be very careful. I booked a car on line through a link after booking a hotel and prepaid a month in advance. When I arrived to pick up my car I was subject to an interrogation as to how I had got this booking , did I work for the hotel , did I have a company card, e.t.c. It was obvious they did not like the rate.
The duty Manager wanted me to pay additional insurance as she said the rental only included third party insurance, ( I am not talking about a CDW as I had taken out a separate insurance for this ) and sign a declaration that made me liable for the total value of the car, I was not prepared to do this.
I asked for this in writing and was told and I quote “You won't get anything in writing from me“.
As it states that if I do not arrive to pick up the car I will lose the booking fee I felt that I needed a witness so I asked the person next to me if he could listen to what was being said.
I was then informed that if I did not stop harassing the customers that she would call security, I thought that was a good idea as I wanted a witness so I asked for security to be called. It then looked like no security was being called so I contacted the police who attended and eventually I received something in writing .
I have not received a full refund and have had additional costs which I will be dealing with separately , and will be informing Trading Standards as there is a Consumer Rights issue as well.
I would add that this is the second time this company has not liked the rate obtained over the web but on the first occasion it did get sorted after a heated discussion .
You should not assume that even though you have a booking conformation that you will get a car.
