Refurbdepot.com Complaint - Was it really 'Refurbished'?

Review by ucoll83 on 2008-02-11
My letter enclosed with the Xbox I just returned to Refurbdepot.com:

Please find enclosed the very much NOT refurbished XBOX 360 that was sent to me as refurbished. Upon receipt of this XBOX, on a Friday afternoon (after you had closed for the day), we hooked the very much NOT refurbished XBOX 360 to our television. It worked for 5 minutes before crashing. The ‘red ring of death’ lit up. I called your customer service (service?? hardly) line only to hear the recording announcing that you close on Fridays at 2pm. I called again during your business hours, explained my situation, and was referred to a Microsoft customer service number. The nice Microsoft customer SERVICE representative informed me that based on my very much NOT refurbished XBOX 360’s lights flashing, that a new HARD DRIVE was needed. Now I would have thought that the very much NOT refurbished XBOX 360 would have arrived to me actually REFURBISHED. Clearly, this was not the case. Microsoft issued a return package INCLUDING A BOX AND PREPAID SHIPPING LABEL and I sent the free BOX to Microsoft. The BOX was returned a few weeks later with the very much NOT refurbished XBOX 360 inside along with a notice (enclosed for your inspection.) It seems that my very much NOT refurbished XBOX 360 you sold to me as REFURBISHED, was not only NOT REFURBISHED but was TAMPERED with. The warranty was therefore VOIDED. Now a more cynical customer would think that perhaps you might have sold and shipped across state lines a stolen XBOX 360. A more cynical customer would also be completely (apoplectic) about having to pay shipping to return a device that was paid for a long time ago and was NOT in working condition.

Clearly I am not pleased with my experience so far with this online store.

There is really nothing you can do if the sticker in the back was tampered with. Once something is done to it, the whole warranty is voided.

I think you might be missing my point. I bought something from Refurbdepot.com that never worked. I bought it with a worthless warranty because it came to me not having been refurbished (as promised) and tampered with.

I got your point loud and clear. The only thing you can do is file a dispute with your CC company if it's before 90 days.

That will be my next step if I'm not sent a working model. Clearly I'm out the return shipping charge.

I wouldn't even give them the chance honestly. They sent you one machine that was obviously tampered with, I wouldn't trust the next one. Make sure to take pictures of this 360 before you send it anywhere. That way they can't say that you did the tampering. Your CC may also want to see pictures as well if you do in fact file a dispute. Your best bet would be to buy a used one from GameStop or another store like that.
