Pep Boys Informative - Service
I just wanted to let everyone know what the Pep Boys service department has started doing since they have been directed from corporate to switch to a new work order system. Keep in mind that the people at the store level have no control over this. You will be paying a lot more for parts through service than over the counter. Here are a couple of examples: Oil cap for a Dodge Dakota, on the shelf $7.99 through service $13.98, clutch for a Chevy S-10 over the counter $129.99 through service $170.49. You are better off buying the parts over the counter and taking them to the service department to be put on or doing it yourself.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the District manager for service in our area (Utah, Colorodo) is threatening to write up service managers if they go 2 days without selling an Alignment or brake job. I'm not sure if this is true nationwide but it is getting out of hand here.
I work at Pep Boys part time and asked the store manager why they are doing this, he said the answer his boss gave him was that because they are "taking a liability" by installing parts for people. Also they have extended there labor warranty from 6 months to 1 year. Everyone I have talked to at my store disagrees with this new practice and has told all of there friends, family and customers to stay away from the Pep Boys service department. I do not agree with people getting ripped off and that is exactly what they are doing. You may ask why I still work there? The answer is because I feel I can help more people working there than if I quit.
Thanks for letting me vent.
