EXY - Chic Greek Compliment - Excellent New Restaurant!

Review by sunshine619 on 2008-02-19
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA -- For Valentines day my boyfriend took me to a new place downtown called EXY. When we valeted the car I was a little nervous because it said "chic greek" and I'm not a huge fan of greek food. Ends up its more of a greek fusion type place. Well, we get inside and the atmosphere is great, its very modern and well, chic. It was reminisant of a swanky place in the middle of Manhattan. The hostesses were very polite and gave me a long stem rose upon entering. When we got to our table they placed our napkins in our laps, the whole deal. It was a prix fix menu for the holiday (4 courses chosen off a limited menu for a fixed price of $75/pp). They served a grilled pita bread with an incredible dipping sauce throughout the meal and I had zucchini cakes for my appetizer and he had oysters, they were both amazing, we each got a beautiful salad, his with shrimp mine with dried pecans and cranberries, we both opted for the filet mignon & lobster, it was amazing. It was served with garlic sauteed spinach that was to die for (and before this dinner I thought I hated spinach) We had a bottle of wine that was very reasonably priced for the caliber of restaurant, and our meal included a champagne chambord cocktail served with our dessert which was too delicious for words!

We both enjoy fine dining on special occasions and kind of stick to our favorites that are tried and true, Peohes, the del, Mr. A's, Chart house, Ruth Chris...I was definitely a little nervous but sooooo pleasantly surprised! We will for sure be back the next chance we get.

Sounds good! I wish I was in San Diego right now to try it. I love San Diego, but it doesn't surprise me that the place was greek fusion. The last time I was out there I went to about 5 different restaurants and everyone of them was a fusion restaurant. I was starting to wonder if there were any other kinds in town! Thanks for the review!
