Target Complaint - Humiliated And Discriminated Against By Target's Security Guards
LAKEWOOD, CALIFORNIA -- My husband and I have been shopping at Target for years. I lived in Minnesota for almost ten years and loved shopping at Dayton's so when I moved to California, I became a faithful customer to Target. After my experience last night, at the Target in the Lakewood Center Mall, it will be a cold day in hell before I ever step foot into another Target store!! My husband had surgery on his hand and as a result the doctors put a cast on him that covered his entire hand and extended to his elbow. He is on kidney dialysis and has a greater risk of getting infections than most people so his cast was very large and abnormal looking. Instead of people staring at him, he decided to wear a sweat jacket that's sleeves were long enough to hide the cast. We went to Target to browse but we were definitely going to buy a blow dryer for my hair. We needed shampoo but realized that blow dryers were not with hair products so we asked for assistance. After being told that they were located upstairs, my husband went to grab a thing of miracle whip and was ambushed by target security. "Are you lost?" "What are you looking for?" "Sir, what did you put in the sleeve of your jacket?" My husband was stunned and emabarassed as other customers stopped to see what was going on.
Both security officers were colored and again they asked,"what is in your sleeve?" "You might be a big white man but if you don't show us what you put in the sleeve of your jacket, we will take you down!" My husband very calmly pulled up his sleeve and told them that the only thing he had up his sleeve was a cast. No apologies, NOTHING, and when we went upstairs to get a blow dryer, security continued to follow us.
My husband makes over 100,000.00 a year and NEVER have I entered a store with any intent other than to pay for the items in my cart. I could have probably forgotten this entire thing if an apology would have been made and after I purchased all of my items, I was tempted to walk over and return each one at the customer service counter.
Knowing that would only cause me more of a headache, my husband and I decided that we would no longer be shopping at ANY of the Target stores!
