Cox Communications Inc Complaint - Technicians Need Basic Skills
MIDWEST CITY, OKLAHOMA -- I've been a long time Cox subscriber. Heck, I even wrote an outstanding Cox review not too long ago. I'm a basic cable kind of guy so basically I've been satisfied with Cox basic cable.
The other day my GF and I got one of those big flat panel high def LCD TVs as a wedding gift or pre-wedding if you will. The gift giver insisted we needed digital cable in order to fully appreciate our TV viewing experience although I was warned from the start that the Fox and Friends weren't hi-def yet. Okay so I pick up my digital cable accoutrements for the Cox store. That part was very easy and painless. So far, so good. I hook everything up -- great instructions provided by Cox for us AVphobes. Again alls well. Make a call and WHAM I'm surfing digital cable land EXCEPT the picture and sound was choppy and some channels were pitch black. I call Cox tech support and after plugging, unplugging, turning on & off the box half dozen times or so they kicked the complaint up a notch... So then later I get a call from the next level of tech support who had me plug, unplug, turn on & off the box a few times.. till I said maybe the lines are bad...maybe the signal is weak or something.. The tech says I can check that and came back with a yeah your signal is very weak. A guy will be out tomorrow.
The first guy restrung the the line from the house to the pole. Said the signal improved and split... Well things got a bit better but still many of the same problems... Another call to Cox tech support... some more plugging & unplugging and turning on & off the box...then another tech appointment. The second guy comes out a few days later. His answer was an amplifier which he couldn't get to work much to his dismay. Then he was about to rerun the internal lines inside the walls which was going to be on my nickel. Whoa buddy not so fast. Let's try shaving this puppy with Occam's razor...It seems to me the internal lines are well protected. The line from the pole to the house is new... but were the outside splitters and connectors replaced? He said no but they looked good to him.. I says humor me and replace them if you will... Well he did and presto chango my digital signal was strong and all was right in my digital cable world and more importantly I didn't have to pay for an internal rewire.
I gotta wonder what kind of training these boys receive when a techno-tard like myself out diagnosed their well paid experts. I'm not feeling overly confident with Cox right now BUT overall Cox has done me well. So I'll forgive them this time.
