Car Rental - Complaint
Review by NotThisTree on 2008-02-27
DENVER, COLORADO -- I rented a car in June 2007 from Thrifty Car Rental. When I took possession of the car it had damage and it was noted. When I returned the car, the car was physically inspected and signed off as in the same condition that I received it, by a representative. Now, months later, I am receiving threatening letters from the company claiming that I was responsible for the damage and have refused to pay $547.72. This is the first correspondence I have received yet when I called to clear the matter, their representativet, Collection Agent, claimed that I was sent three letters previously by another representative. NOT SO!
Furthermore, he refused to cooperate with me when I requested he mail me the documentation via a method by which I can physically sign for receipt - satisfying proof for BOTH of us that I received the information. I have a right to know what they are basing their claim upon, yet [snip] refused to accept this option and threatened me with Collections. He took a belligerant attitude with me when I pointed out common sense logic that clearly the paper trail on this cannot be correct if the Inspector at the site cleared the car when I returned it. He then refused to transfer me to a manager to resolve the matter.
This situation is completely OUTRAGEOUS! Someone(s) at Thrifty is either not doing their job properly, hence the false accusations, or they are altering paperwork!! I smell consumer fraud!!!
I will NEVER, EVER, EVER use Thrifty Car Rental again and recommend the same for anyone considering using their services!!!
