America Online Complaint - AOL - Bad Srv & stole $642.47
I was charged $642.47 in my checking account from AOL. I canceled on July 13th, and was asked if I wanted to keep my screen names to check my email addresses from another provider for $2.95/mth. I agreed, yet was never told that my account still exists and is not "closed" b/c of this. I went through billing, who transferred me to cancellations. Cancellations said that my bank was lying to me and that there is no such charge. I ask to speak with a supervisor, only to have the supervisor mock me and accuse me of calling to try and have them credit me free money. I then asked to speak with his manager, with hesitation, transfers me BACK TO the same rep I spoke with in the beginning, only this time he was disguising his voice!!! OH THE NERVE! I confront them, they admit it, and it goes back to the blame game. I call back to speak with another rep in billing to confirm they've billed me, and get transfer back to cancellation. I speak with a "Charles", which sounds more than helpful (finally) and says he will look into the credits.
The amount promised was $622.41, which is $25 less than the original charge. I agreed to it, HOWEVER, he then said "well, now I have to ask you something. I have this service called BYOB..." I politely thanked him and proceeded to explain that I now have DSL with SBC. He then says "ok, but just so that you understand, these credits have not gotten final approval from our top manager, and I know that if I present him request for credits with a closed account, the chances of you getting your money is slim to none". I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS GUY WAS TRYING TO BRIBE ME!!! So he wouldn't budge, I wanted my money, so I finally gave in and agreed to the service, knowing that I would call in to cancel as soon as my credit was issued. Well, I just looked at my bank account, and they credited only $545.37. I'm short $97.10. Do I want to deal with being hung up on (3 times), rude customer service, being chastise for inquiring about charges, and having to deal with money that was taken out for no apparent reason?? I'll cut my losses and move on with $97.10 short from my account. I will NEVER, I repeat, NEVER look at AOL and not feel disgusted! Enough said!
