Whirlpool - Self Cleaning Function Causes Oven To Shut Down
Gas Range KGSA906P5500 - Complaint
We purchased a Kitchen Aid Gas Range Model KGSA906P5500 March 2005.
During the normal self-cleaning process, the temperature can be sufficient to trip the thermostat fuse Part FSP #8300803. This fuse is a one time use part at a cost of $50, total repair bill $154.75
I have read numerous complaints about this problem, the serviceman told me he had serviced 5 other KitchAide stoves with the same problem. He advised me to have the new fuse installed with just one screw rather than the standard 2 screws, thus keeping the fuse away from the oven cover.
I spoke with KitchenAide who denied any knowledge of this as a common problem, advised me that repairs are guaranteed for 90days and that I should try the cleaning process again.
I am now left with an oven that has a compromised safety mechanism and a self cleaning feature which may cost another $154.75 if I use it after the 90day period.
I believe this is a serious design flaw and therefore should be remedied by the manufacturer.
THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE OVENS, HOWEVER WHIRLPOOL DENY ANY KNOWLEDGE OF A PROBLEM.
