Chase Manhattan Bank Complaint - Dissatisfied Customer
CHATSWORTH, GEORGIA -- I was a Chase credit card customer for a long time. Also, I recently closed out a 15-yr mortgage loan which I paid off in less than 6 years. I was never late either on the credit card bills or the mortgage loan and paid the bills in full every month.
I had been sent multiple emails for both my credit card accounts asking me to sign up for e-mail notification of the bills coming due. I finally signed up; however I didn't realize that I wouldn't be getting a mailed copy of the bill as well. I found out on March 5 that I was charged a $39 late fee on each card - they had been due on the 28th and that date passed without me noticing because I wasn't sent a bill. I immediately made payment the next day via MS Money direct payment. (Today I found additional finance charges on both accounts - $14.43 and 16.62!) I both wrote and called asking that the charges be waived. I felt that that a reasonable establishment would understand the circumstances and be, well reasonable. Big disappointment. Both a service rep and two supervisors were as unsympathetic, unconcerned, and as arrogant as could be.
All I can do is cancel the accounts (done) and fight them tooth and nail - until Hades freezes over - over the $109.05 in monthly late fees on less than $1,700 in charges. Seven (7) days late one time in many years and the lateness wasn't even all my fault. I'm disgusted with this company - both their policies and at least three of their employees.
