Sharper Image Informative - Gift Card redemption - Will accept gift cards.. with conditions

Will accept gift cards.. with conditions
Review by southbaypaul on 2008-03-09
CALIFORNIA -- There were previous posts about SI no longer accepting their own gift cards due to bankruptcy.

Now they will, but with conditions. You must spend all the money on the gift card in one transaction, and the purchase must be at least twice the value of the card.

Here is an article about this

Probably too little too late. Most folks may have already redeemed their cards at Brookstone for fear that Brookstone would stop the program after a while.

Sharper Image should never have made this mistake in the first place, and now they realize they have all this unsold inventory to get rid of and they are trying to sell it off. I think it is crap that they require you to buy something for twice the value, they only want more of your money...

I can't believe they sold gift cards right up until they declared bankruptcy knowing that the consumer would have trouble redeeming them. I think this is just crazy and underhanded. If this company comes out of bankruptcy or comes back in another form consumers should be aware and never do business with them.

Good point spiderman2. I for one will NOT be using them in the future if they do bounce back as another company. I use to be a loyal fan, but not any more.

In no way am I defending Sharper Image because I always felt their merchandise was over priced. However, sometimes a company can successfully come back after bankruptcy. An example is a local furniture company that has two stores in the area. They were out of business for about three years. Two years ago they reopened. Last summer I purchased a lounger for my bedroom and it's top-notch quality and was reasonably priced.

The only things I've ever purchased from SI were items that were priced the same as at other stores, e.g., a bar set, etc. I won't be holding my breath for them to come back.

Ponie -- I think that is great for that company. My only beef with SI is that they knowingly sold gift cards that they knew people were not going to be able to use. In my book that is a scam and shows what they think of their customers. The powers that be there didn't just wake up one morning and decide they were bankrupt. It was done intentionally and it was wrong.

LOL, what I found is humorous, is that they require you to spend twice as much as what you have on the card, so in essence, you are probably going to pay twice as much, just to use your gift card. I am not sold on the gift card deal. Unless there is a promotion that for every $25.00 you get an extra $5.00 card or a free gift, why not just give the person the money, this way they can spend it were ever they want.
