Creative Technology Ltd Complaint - Unservicable Digital Camera

Review by robtk on 2008-03-10
AUCKLAND -- I purchased a Creative "DC Cam" Digital Camera in Hong Kong June 1995. The camera came with a one year warranty.

2 years later in 2007 the camera developed a fault during a vacation. When we returned home I contacted Creative who directed me to their local agent to organize repairs.

The agent sent the camera away to be repaired however the repairs never took place as after receiving the camera Creative then told me that they no longer had parts for that model.

It was only after several more emails that they admitted the reason for this was that they had stopped making digital camera's altogether.

It seems ridiculous to me that a camera would be completely unserviceable after only 2 years, especially when purchased from such a large international company.

I am now trying to locate an independent digital camera repairer whom I will probably have to pay a large sum for the repair.

Most all digital cameras are unrepairable. Usually they are replaced instead of serviced. You are better off buying a new camera.

1995 to 2007 is 12 years, not 2. Most electronics today are considered disposable. When you figure the cost of labor it is usually more cost effective to buy a new item.

You did not say what the camera cost and I did not look it up. But, if you are talking about an $800 camera that can't be repaired 2 years later that would stink.

The OP meant 2005. The camera received good reviews when it was introduced in Nov 2004. I have a Kodak that looks almost exactly like it. Currently the value of the camera is very low.

It is best to replace the camera as they are cheap these days.
