SunCom Complaint - Termination Fee for Pre Paid Phones? - Cell Phone

Cell Phone - Complaint
Review by FedUpInNC on 2008-03-10
WINSTON SALEM -- I had a go phone from Cingular a while back. Apparently SunCom bought Cingular. I was told that I needed to switch to a SunCom Sim card. I was told to go to a local SunCom store and get the new sim card. I kept my prepaid option and never signed a contract with them. As a matter of fact, I did not sign anything that day at all. The rep gave me the sim card and told me the plan was similar to the plan I had with Cingular. Well, a few months later, I decided to get a contract plan with Cingular. They were back up and running. I did not pay anymore on the prepaid phone because I did not want it. A few months later I receive a bill fro $275 for a termination fee for the pre paid phone. I was told because I did not call and tell them I was terminating the coverage their was a termination fee of $275. I have called them on several occasions and I have always been told their is nothing that can be done. I do not understand how you can have a termination fee for a pre paid phone. Does anyone have any address or numbers for SunCom.

I cannot find any information to complain to the higher ups in the company.I am currently sending a complaint to the attorney general and the BBB. But any other information will be greatly appreciated.

Cingular was bought out by At& T again, not SunCom.

Gothic is right. Tell SunCom you want to see the contract you signed stating you would pay a termination fee - ask them to show you ANY contract you signed or agreed to that you would pay a cancellation fee. I have 2 prepaid ATT phones and they do not even have my name. I simply keep my phone account charged up and if I ever want to 'cancel' I just don't charge it. It sounds as either somehow you agreed to a contract or they are hosing you.

As a Tracfone user, if I ever decide I don't want Tracfone any more, I just quit buying the airtime cards and say goodbye to the unused minutes. there is no termination fee. I can't speak for any other prepaid phone plan, but I would suspect it is the same for them. Sounds to me like SunCom is running a scam on you, as it was AT&T that bought Cingular back, not SunCom. At least I am not like one guy who had the gall to post a complaint about Tracfone because they refused to refund the money for his unused minutes remaining on his phone. He should have had a marathon phone session before giving up the Tracfone. No company I know of refunds for unused minutes on a prepaid phone.

I would fight this one, there is no such thing as "Termination Fee for Pre Paid Phones". This is a total scam by these SunCom etc. folks.

SunCom calls the pre-paid plan GOODCALL. 'No contracts. No worries. SunCom No-Contract Plans give you the outstanding wireless service you want without the commitment of a contract.'
