Del Taco Complaint - Fish Tacos Not Improving - Fish Taco

Complaint
Review by Starlord on 2008-03-18
CASA GRANDE, ARIZONA -- My first fish taco, in San Diego, was a big disappointment. After seeing ads all over town on billboards for the 'NEW' fish taco, I finally had to try one. Big Deal!!! A fish stick in a crunchy corn taco shell. Yeccchhhhh! Del Taco has been advertising 'Feed the Beast,' with their fish taco. The announcer almost goes into ecstasy describing the delicious fish taco. About the only thing I can say about it is that it was better than the first one I had.

When we got our order, there was this little silver thing on the tray that I could not believe was the taco. Unwrapping it, I found it was the fish taco. They have two soggy corn tortillas, filled with a breaded, fried fillet, some coleslaw, salsa, and sour cream. It looked like the taco was wrapped in foil, then squeezed in someone's fist until it was about half it's original size. All of the liquid or semi-liquid ingredients kept oozing out of the tortillas and getting all over me, the table, and the floor.

I have preferred Del Taco over Taco Bell since I first tried Del Taco in California, and usually find their products to be top-notch. However, I must warn people, do not waste your time and money on the fish taco. Fish may be fine on a bun or a plate with hush puppies and fries, but as a taco ingredient, they suck big green rocks.

I had some pretty decent fish tacos at On The Border. But, you're right, most places don't know how to make them.

Wahhoo's Fish Taco's are the best I have ever found. Sorry, California, Hawaii, Texas and Colorado only right now.

I bet that if you went to Guadalajara and asked for a fish taco they'd call the local cops... lemme tell ya those guys carry sub-machine guns on their beat...

Fish tacos are about as Mexican as an Iraqi seder meal...

Rubio's Baja Grill has the bestfish taco. They originated in San Diego and now have locations all over the west coast.

Actually your very wrong on that one Old fart. They came from the west coast of Mexico years ago. When you go to Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta etc. they have been on the menu as far back as I remember. Most are made using fresh deep fried or grilled fish. Don't knock something you have never tried. They are great with black beans and rice.

Super..I'll take your word for it.... In Guadalajara, those folks are up in the mountains and they probably don't know from fish tacos..

A little food for thought. The hard shell taco was invented in America by a guy named bell who later started Taco Bell. The fish taco in mexico predates Columbus or the vikings.

I used to travel to Guadalajara on business a lot. Guadalajara is all beef. Very mild and non spicey beef dishes. Be careful not to knock something you have never tried.

Wiki:

**Fish tacos originated in Mexico, where they consist of grilled or fried fish, lettuce, Pico de Gallo (tomatoes, onions, cilantro and lemon juice) and are placed on top of a corn, wheat or flour tortilla.

In the United States they remain most popular in California and Colorado. In California they are often found at street vendors, and a regional variation is to served them with cabbage and coleslaw dressing on top a flour or wheat tortilla.

Well like I said to don't knock something you have never tried. They are very good. I don't like eggplant but I can say that because I have tried it.

You would love MY Eggplant!

I would probably like eggplant except they are so ugly before you cut them up. Like a veggie that belongs on Venus or something. Being married into a bunch of Italian's I am very out numbered when it comes to eggplant.

Eggplant has no taste at all!

They fry it or cover it with cheese and sauce. Not sure if they are hiding it or adding flavor to it.

I had a Fish Taco once...the base was on full alert for a week afterwards. No shytter was safe on that base...even the women's bathroom!

This makes me glad I don't like fish . . . not even in a taco. :)

I don't do eggplant, either. I have tried it several times, to make sure it is not the preparation, I just can't get into the taste. Thank you, Stew. I have heard of Wahoo's, and I would love to try one sometime. However, until I do, no more fish tacos for me.
