United States Postal Service Compliment - Prompt Delivery of Priority Packages - Priority Mail Delivery

Priority Mail Delivery - Compliment
Review by dianec on 2008-03-19
PORTLAND, OREGON -- I just wanted to write up a compliment to the US Postal Service, Airport Branch, in Portland, Oregon.

On Saturday, early evening, March 15, 2008, I sent two packages, priority mail, to the east coast from Portland, OR. One was going to Boston, MA and one to Brooklyn, NY. They both arrived at their destinations on Monday, March 17, 2008, barely two days later (and from one coast of the US to the other).

Not only did my packages arrive very quickly, but the employees at this very busy post office were very courteous and cheerful.

In addition, an employee noticed that the line was very long and asked me (and others) if he could help us at the automated machine if we were using a debit or credit card. (I didn't know there was one available at this branch.)

Although I probably wouldn't have needed help at the machine, he stood by and made sure that I understood how the machine operated. It was very quick and saved me a lot of time waiting in line. If you have packages (especially priority) and are using a card, the machine is the way to go.

I just wanted to give some credit to these hard working people. We often take the post office for granted or complain when something goes wrong, but seldom do we here about all the good outcomes. So, kudos to them!

Great compliment!

Thanks for the heads up, dianec. We have one of those machines at my local post office but I've never used it. My personal (and continuous) complaint about USPS is when we have a sub on our route. We have the standard-issue apartment mailboxes, and our usual carrier does an outstanding job. However, the subs manage to really jam our mail into these boxes. Even though I may not be home at the time of delivery, I can always tell when a sub is on our route.

Awesome review!

Thanks, Jen and GS.

Ponie--When I lived in CT last year, I had many issues with mail delivery and subs. The problems were never resolved so I hear you. It is very flustrating, to say the least. I never seem to have any problems with the postal service here in the NW.

Diane, great review. I'm glad you took the time to compliment. It's refreshing to see someone take the time to do it.

Thanks, Princi. We do seem to take good service for granted--only noticing the bad. Lately, I've been trying to be more diligent about giving praise where it is deserved. People really don't get enough of it.

Dianec, great review. I always use the machine, because it NEVER has a line!

Great review and very helpful D. and thanks!

Thanks, Lidman. Leela, you're right about that. There was absolutely no line and that is what I'll use from now on. I don't think they've had it very long at this branch, but I don't go to the Airport branch very often so I couldn't be sure.

Thanks Diane...also, if you send alot of packages out...you can got to Stamps.com (for a small monthly fee) and you can order all kinds of packages, envelopes, labels etc for free (you can also pick some of this up from your post office, but online, you can get the tape and everything)...I even got a free postal scale when I signed up...you can have all your packages ready and print up your own postage...then you don't have to wait in line at the post office at all (you can also get insurance through them)...just walk up and hand the package to the person behind the counter...most people in line don't say anything because you're not cutting in front of them, you're just handing the package to the person and I just say, "These are all stamped, I'm just dropping them off". I used this service all the time when I sold on Ebay.

We use USPS Priority and Express for almost everything now. Better prices and they will deliver to PO Boxes. No extra fee's for Saturday is also a plus. Very good review.

Excellent review! If I ever have something to mail I'll be sure to try this outfit. Thanks!

Thanks, super, happy & DB. DB, thanks for the additional info. If you mail packages a lot or live in a big city that would be a time saver.

Nice reminder of what the USPS has to offer. So many have grown accustomed to using UPS, FedEx and other package delivery services they don't even think of the Post Office except for letters.

Also, if you already have the packages weighed and stamped, you can hand them out to your mail carrier...I never did that, because I usually had more than one box and didn't want him to have to carry them around on top of all the mail he was already carrying...but now that I live in an apartment, I would do it because he pulls his truck right up to the apartment when he delivers.
