Gate1 Travel Complaint - Never Again - Tour

Review by kiracat on 2008-03-24
I took Gate1's tour of Italy. I will never travel with them again. First instead of a flight to Rome I had to go to New York for a half day layover then to Paris where I found I was booked onto the wrong flight. My luggage got lost because of the misinformation. When I finally got to Rome I found my luggage was lost and then the Gate1 driver refused to drive me to my hotel.

I showed him my paperwork and he screamed and swore at me. The worthless guide spend all of her time trying to get extra money from me. The food that came with the trip was garbage.

When I complained to Gate1 I was offered $50 off my next trip with them. As if that would ever happen!

Gate 1 Travel in Egypt is awful! Substandard boat. Yes, I just returned from the 8-day Affordable tour of Cairo, Egypt with 3-day Nile cruise included. We arrived to confusion and it never ended. The timing of the flights and transfers is unacceptable. Arrived at the hotel in Cairo on the first day about 3 PM, very jet-lagged. Our wake-up call for transfer the next morning was at 1:15 AM! Other than leaving your bags outside the room door at times, you always have to handle your own bag due to airport security. You cannot be a spoiled tour-group traveler for this excursion. The cruise ships they used were old, showers and toilets didn't work, beds were very uncomfortable, engines were loud all night, and the waiters thought they were funny, but they made some rude comments to the women. By the way, rats were seen jumping off the dock in Luxor and swimming to climb aboard with us! The pace was very hectic. The tour director was constantly yelling at all the contractors. Very stressful. You must be very careful about who you deal with there. You could lose a lot of money. Also, the tour guide would tell us one time, and the tour director would say another. I felt like a lot of time was spent milling around with everyone in the group asking each other what was going on. Very disorganized. If they just had a printed time schedule to follow and give to everyone ahead of time, it would save a lot of confusion. The final day on the boat, we were kicked out of our room very early. The housekeeping staff was knocking on the cabin door at 6:30 AM telling us to check out now! The wake up call was not to be until 8:30 AM. For the entire day, our bags had to sit out in the lobby for anyone to take. Even though desk clerks were there, I went into my own bag several times and was never questioned. They issued "day use rooms" because we were in limbo. Five rooms were to be shared by the women and five by the men. I went to one of the women's rooms and it was filled with everyone's carry on baggag. That left four rooms. I went to another and there were 8 men and women there. It was ridiculous waiting around the entire day. Finally, we departed four our midnight flight. What a waste of a day. Why couldn't they get us on an earlier flight or let us stay in our cabins all day? Needless to say, we were completely exhausted and did not enjoy the next day - the Full-Day in Cairo trip because of being so tired. PS: At the airport, do not let anyone handle your bags. They warned us of people taking your bags off the bus but did they tell them to go away? No. Same at the airport security check. Some guy who does not work there will take your bags to help you and expect money. They don't tell them to go away either. I don't recommend this trip if you like organization or sleep.
