Mazda Informative - Consumer Beware - Frozen Lug Nuts - Routine Service For Your Car

Routine Service For Your Car
Review by smarter than before on 2008-03-27
NEW JERSEY -- I own a 2003 Mazda Protege... my problems are few but worth mentioning. My auto was purchased with a battery that needed to be replaced. This was not done and I had returned several times until the battery would not take another jump. Routine service brought me to new front and 'rear' brakes at 28k... I did have the brakes done elsewhere for cost effective reasons.

I was told that I could have the 30k 'check' for over $500...with this I requested an oil change and tire rotation. Also told again that the brakes were 'middle of the road.' Low and behold...the locked lug nuts are stripped and the tires cannot be removed. Both dealer and service shop deny any wrong doings. Now the lugs are to be chiseled off and no one is responsible for further damage. I am left holding my 'nuts' and not knowing who to trust or where to go.

I will not return to the dealer for further service nor purchase at their local.

Find a good old fashioned mechanic who you can look in the eye. Someone who loves what he is doing and not looking to make a 'killing' on you. A young man removed the locked on 'nuts' with a new tool and charged me nothing!

Fast talk and flash will not keep us safe on the road.

Most of your "good old fashioned" mechanics lack the neccessary computerized equipment and/or factory training to work on today's vehicles (other than oil changes and tire rotations). There are many benefits to utilizing a factory trained technician, and I know of many of them who can "look you in the eye."
