Alamo Car Rental Complaint - Explanation Of Contract & Customer Service

Review by iowatraveler on 2008-03-28
DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, VIRGINIA -- I rented a car via the net to be picked up at Logan International Airport. All was there, except someone on staff who could or did explain the rules of the contract.

When I dropped the car off at Dulles International Airport little did I know that 2 extra hours around DC were going to violate the time of the contract. If I had, I would have not taken then extra time.

The hour of anticipated return carried no weight. The hours of the contract were determined by the hour I picked up the car in Boston, totally disconnected to when I anticipated drop off. I thought the contact would be regulated somewhat at least by the internet choices indicated by the client.

Two hours of "Extended Contract Time" equaled $80. There was not 'Sorry about that'....just "We will bill your card for this amount because you had the car 2 extra hours beyond the contract."

Be Aware, this company has it set up to rip off!

Does this happen more to women, than to men?

Thanks.....choose another company.

Sorry about your experience. Knowing that we are supposed to learn from our experiences, my best advice to you is to Remember The Alamo.

Any rental contract I have ever had is totally specific about what time the car must be returned, and the hourly charge thereafter. Bear in mind that they are accepting reservations based on the fact that the car will have been returned in time to be cleaned and re-rented. Normally the hourly rate won't exceed th edaily rate. Were you paying more than $80 per day?

this is not an Alamo issue but the norm in car rental policies that are built around a 24 hr day. Some company's do allow one hr grace but there is an hourly and daily rate on EVERY car rental contract you sign regardless of company.
