Red Lobster Complaint - Gift Card Payment - Service: Payment by Gift Card
TOPEKA, KANSAS -- On 3-31-2008 my mother (78) and two friends, one of who was having tests at the VA hospital in Topeka KS, went to Red Lobster @ 21st & Wanamaker for lunch. The meal was thoroughly enjoyed by all three ladies. When the check came it was $39.54. Mom had a $25 gift certificate her grandkids had given her. She also had a $3.00 off two entrees coupon from the Sunday paper inserts. She placed a $50, the gift card on top of that and the coupon on the very top and gave it to her waitress. The ladies continued talking and finishing their Iced Tea when the waitress brought back the folder with her change. She opened it and gathered her change, left a $6 tip, placed the wad of change in her purse side pocket and they all left.
She noticed the gift card was in the pocket of the folder, but didn't think anything of it as it had been used up to pay the dinner and the balance due from her $50. Later in the evening when she was home and going thru her purse, she got the change from the fifty in her side pocket to place in her billfold. Only then did she notice it was only $13 and coins. Then it hit her what the cashier/waitress had done. She feels silly for not treating the waitress like a gradeschooler and specifically telling her how she wanted to pay only the balance due after the coupon and gift card were used. I reassured her it was not her fault.
So Congratulation to RED LOBSTER for ripping off formerly loyal customers, the grandkids who bought the gift card in good faith, the elder ladies lunch group, that totals about 56 of us. No more biz from us, Applebee's will now be our choice.
