United Airlines Complaint - United Baggage Handling: Incompetent
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- On March 4th, 2008, I boarded a connecting flight from NYC/LaGuardia to Washington DC / Dulles International Airport. The flight was extensively delayed by a "leak" which prompted me to opt to take the next day's flight. I disembarked the aircraft. The next day, I made the decision not to fly to Zurich due to a number of factors, and expected my baggage to be returned to LaGuardia.
This didn't happen. Instead it took until March 12th for my bag (which contains all of my snowboarding gear) to be sent back to the US from Europe (where, according to records, it had quite a tour of duty, having stopped in Zurich, flown to Frankfurt, then back to Zurich). At that time, the bag were apparently routed to Chicago O'Hare, home of United's so-called "Baggage Headquarters" (which would be more aptly named "Baggage Dungeon"). The bag (containing my brand new snowboard, gear, and boots) has been sitting there for the last 3.5 weeks - as it is now April 5th.
Ever couple days I call in order to get them to do something, and each time, they promise that action will be taken. So far, I have not received a single phone call from the company.
I will be extremely upset if I receive anything less than a 1st class roundtrip international ticket as remuneration for this pitiful mess, as it has caused me to miss out on the best part of the ski season. Furthermore, United should change their policies so that the baggage representatives actually have SOME say over what happens to baggage, since no one that I've been allowed to talk to has been able to do anything besides "enter a request" on my behalf, which has amounted to ZILCH.
