General Motors Complaint - Last GM Product I Will Ever Own - 2002 Chevy Trailblazer

2002 Chevy Trailblazer - Complaint
Review by bigdog34 on 2008-04-06
MUSKEGON, MICHIGAN -- Let me start by saying I have been a GM guy since I was 16 or younger. I have owned at least 10 since I was a kid. I currently have two: 2002 Trailblazer and 1999 Silverado. The Trailblazer is the one that I have a problem with. This vehicle was seemingly running fine and then literally out of the blue (no warning lights, no gauges showing anything out of the ordinary, and no engine noise or smoke, the engine seized. I am a "freak" about my vehicle maintenance. Makes me crazy if I even go 100 miles over an oil change. If I had any clue that something was about to go wrong with this vehicle I would have had it fixed. This is a vehicle that will tell me when the door is open but won't tell me when the engine is getting ready to seize? There is something definitely wrong. GM knows about this also. I have done some investigating online and I am not the first to have this problem.

So GM...Just know that I am not happy and I will let EVERYONE know that you are the type of company to manufacture a knowingly faulty product and then not stand behind it. This little inconvenience will cost me $2300 (used motor and labor) along with my time and inconvenience. As I rambled about earlier, that will be the LAST vehicle I ever buy that is manufactured by your company.

How many miles were on your Trailblazer when this happened?

Has anyone told you why the engine seized? I suspect a bad sensor (oil pressure, temperature, etc.), gauge, or idiot light...that failed to notify you of a problem before the engine seized. Or, was there a catastrophic failure of a piston rod, crankshaft bearing, etc.? After replacing the engine, I would verify that all of the warning lights and gauges work properly. Otherwise, you may be headed down a familiar road with the new engine. Good luck!

The EXACT same thing happened to my husband's 2002 Trailblazer with 82,000 miles. After nine letters to GM about the multiple defects/failures that led to a seized engine, I've received 2 offers: a $500 credit towards a new GM vehicle, and then a $2000 credit - NO THANKS! We paid $7800 to replace the engine and other parts that were ruined with: no weird sound, NO lights, NO smells, nothing...I've done extensive research online and have concluded that a perfect storm occurred: heat sensor failed, head gasket leaked and fan clutch failed. My husband was drive 25 MPH down our street and had just left the driveway - GM will not listen to us...BTW, our engine is in that numbered run where the cylinders tended to crack...please contact me bigdog 34 so we can compare more notes. This happened on Dec. 19.

Thank you mom2teach!! This is how M3C can unite consumers. Little do some companies know, consumers can now network on the Internet and share similar horror stories. If others link to these cases, you both may be able to get some movement out of GM. Again, thanks mom2teach.

Believe me, Ghost, we know that you are 'united'. I work for GM, and all day long, it's "well I saw on a website that this is a known problem, so you should pay to fix it." We can't go by what a few people post online, we have to go by what our tech's say. If we receive enough complaints called in to us, then it is looked at. But posting on a website pretty much does nothing.
