Midas of Rodney Parham Little Rock Complaint - Can't Do A Simple Oil Change

Review by justanotherone on 2008-04-11
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS -- I bought a Midas Maintenance Package from Midas of Rodney Parham Little Rock on April 11, 2008. The same day the engine shut down in the middle of the road on the freeway. My whole family including my newborn (a one-month old) was in the car and we averted a big wreck. The cause, they did not close the engine oil filter properly and it got opened.

I just don't understand how can they screw up such a simple job. Will never take my car there again.

Something is missing here. An oil filter does not "open" and "close". Did your oil leak out? What were the symptoms at the time it "shut down"? Lack of oil will usually result in engine seizure. That does not happen instantly, the engine will slowly lose power and then quit. There must be more to this story.

Chuck: I have heard "open" and "close" used by non-native English speakers to mean "lock" or "unlock"...as well as "tighten" or "loosen", respectively. A natural response to an engine becoming sluggish (as when it begins to seize) is to give it more throttle. It is likely that this is what happened to the poster. It is not the first time a quick oil change outfit failed to tighten an oil filter. I had one forget to put the oil filler cap back on (What a mess!). Now I change my own oil.
