Ultimate Van Lines Complaint - Ripoff Moving Company - Moving Company

Complaint
Review by Marg804 on 2008-04-12
3-24 Ultimate Van Lines loaded a truck with all my belongings, supposedly to move me from OH to GA. The first driver charged me $600 more than what I already paid-and asked for a $100 tip at the end of the job. He said I should call dispatch the next day to find out when to expect truck in GA. The salesman said 2-5 days, 4-1 at the very latest. Dispatch NEVER answered their line. I rarely got any response from the numerous emails and phone calls I made just wanting to know where by belongings were and when I could expect the truck. I waited in my new empty apartment 18 days-Tina (Manager) called and said the truck would arrive the next day and I needed to pay the balance $986 before he would come. She emailed me a blank form and I put the balance on my credit card, reminding her I had a $100 coupon off their website to redeem.

Two days later, the truck arrived and the driver said I owed him cash of $986 before he would open the truck or he would take it all back to OH. I showed him my payment receipt and he said "Tina knows I need cash." I had no choice but to pay him-he said Tina would credit my credit card (as of today-that's not been done) The first item they took off was my couch which now had a broken, unrepairable leg. The first load of clearly marked boxes "FRAGILE/GLASS" they dropped off the dolly and broke all the contents. My dining room table is of no use-all the bolts/screws were lost. All glass was packed carefully in newspaper and bubble-wrap. I didn't realize they would be throwing my boxes around and dropping them off the truck. They advertise "customer service." Once you hire them, they do not care. They do not answer their phone or respond to email. They are the biggest ripoff company I've ever dealt with.

I complained to the Ohio Attorney General, The Better Business Bureau (which supposedly has their seal of approval) and everyone else I can find. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!
Company Response:
Ultimate Vanlines is working by weight Estimates. The customer is getting a base qoute which is binded to the weight that is discussed with the customer. on pick up day the truck gets weighed. so, the customer can pay for any extra weight by the rate that was originaly set. i don't understand why you consider that to be a ripoff, you pay for what you deliver. if you had a double amount of poundage, you need to pay extra. furthermore, promises for delivery time is exaggerated, we give a window of 1-21 days from the open scheduele, and you can also close a date for a fee. Regarding the tip, It's nice to tip a hardworking man, It's a choice that you can make of course. Our Main focus is 100% customer satisfaction.

Complained to the BBB? Oh that will help...har har har. Complaining to the BBB is like complaining to the Mob about a crooked poker game. Thanks for the post. These guys sound like they'll be out of business in a month.

Do not listen to the comment about the BBB, it really can help. Every time I have filed a complaint with them, I have gotten what I want.

5/17This happened to my friend L, here is an excerpt of the letter she sent to Ultimate "We have a couple of problems, First of all the person that you sent out to move me is going to be investigated for assault. After un-loading the truck he sent the other two men out to fold the blankets. While they were out there he asked me to help him lift the mattress onto the bed and because it was a king size mattress I agreed he then threw me on the bed and attempted to rape me. He did not get that far because he ended up with my knee in his croch at which time I told him to leave my damn house and helped him to the door where I locked it after throwing him out. All I know is his name is Johnny and do not know his last name. However, your company will be contacted by the Terrell Police Department and if I was you I would cooperate in giving them any and all information that you have on him. Since he was not successful in raping me they cannot get him on rape but will be investigating him on assault.Second: I have a quote from you that I am attaching for 272.00 after they got the truck loaded he said that he would appreciate a good tip to take care of the work they did and I told him that I was planning on tipping them for their work. He told me that $200.00 would be a good tip and I told him that all I have on me is $160.00 so he said that would be fine. After tipping him he then went on to say that they did more work and he brought a third man. I explained to him that I had a quote and they did no more work than they were suppose to. He then went on to tell me that if I want my furniture off the truck it would be an extra 560.00 so with the deposit my total charges was 660.00 I had no choice but to pay it because I tried calling your office and it was closed. So in order to get my furniture off the truck I had to pay it. He was also talking to the dispatch or whom ever in Spanish. I called the credit card company immediately and ask them to cancel my card because I do not know if this was a scam and he would be charging more on my card.Let me tell you I have never been treated this way by a company. I am in the process of hiring a Lawyer and Ultimate Van Lines will be investigated. I was tormented by your mover and charged so much money this entire move cost me 660.00 plus 160.00 for a tip which is a total of 820.00. Plus the fact that I was assaulted and I am still extremely shaken up about it. "Tell everyone that you know about these scam artists and criminals. I have contacted numerous States' Attorneys General about this.I do not know what kind of company you are running or if you do back ground checks but we will soon find out.

Ultimate's Manager Tina said that L was lying and that they would not investigate the driver.

My reply to Ultimate Van Lines re: my weight of my belongings...then, since my truck full of my belongings weighed less than your estimate, WHERE is my refund? Why haven't you contacted me on how to get reimbursed on all my damages you caused? Where is my $1000 the driver made me pay him? It's been 6 weeks and I'm still waiting for you to make this horrible decision to hire your company right. Margaret in Georgia

It's June 23(they moved me March 24th) and I still haven't had anyone from Ultimate Van Lines contact me about all the damages they caused to my belongings or gotten a refund on the weight difference that they overcharged me. They do not care anything about customer service like they claim in their ad! Onvce they get your money-beware!

I think that 'company response' is pretty flippant. Have they removed the $986? I've never had to remove a charge, but you might call the CC company just in case it's within the dispute period to have it reversed. I don't know what the time limit is. Good luck! They sound like an outfit I certainly wouldn't want to do business with.

It's now almost a year later and they've not resolved anything. I still never got a call saying who to contact like they told the BBB they sent me. I complained to the Ohio Atty. General's Office, and Texas, and my credit card company that I put the sale on-DISCOVER CARD-who said I couldn't dispute the charge and had to pay it. they were no help to me either and I've been a customer of theirs since 1986-guess Discover has enough good customers.

Smug reply from the company. These are hostage movers with numerous complaints online. That remark about the tip deserved a nice hard slap.

Have you checked out movingscam.com to see if they might have any resources that could help?
