American Airlines Complaint - Lost Baggage/Clothing Reimbursement
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- On a recent visit to Sandals St Lucia we arrived at our destination only to discover no luggage. Despite being at the airport 3 hours early to check our luggage per TSA instructions, it was lost at the JFK NY transfer.
There was a counter at the airport that takes your information for this situation,so we filled out the one page form & hoped for the best. Unfortunately for us,we had not packed anything in our carry ons so due to the temps in the mid 80's (it was averaging 20 degree in our native Boston) we were forced to buy basic toiletries & clothing.
TO make matters worse,this resort is in a remote location over 2 hours from shopping so we were forced to purchase clothes in the on site store at inflated prices for total cost of $475.00 for 2 bathing suits, 2 pairs of shorts, 2 shirts & 2 pairs of flip flops plus toothbrushes, mouthwash & a hairbrush.
36 hours later after we had basically given up (we were only there for 4 days) it our luggage miraculously showed up on our doorstep-for this we were grateful.
Upon arriving home I went on the net to find out my remedies as I had been reimbursed 100% by USAIR for a similar situation in 1988.I found the AA website & submitted my claim form,receipts & copy of form from St Lucia airport. I also scanned numerous horror stories of legal cases where luggage had been completely lost & AA had refused to pay, resulting in multiple federal lawsuits.
Six weeks later I received a $200 voucher for a future flight for AA with a letter saying we were supposed to fill out a special AA from at the airport (We asked & there was were no Airline reps for luggage as are at most international airports). Needless to say, I feel ripped off & now will never fly AA again.
