Alliance BJJ Complaint - Cancellation of Membership
ATLANTA, GEORGIA -- I took a practice session at the fitness facility, Alliance Jiu-Jitsu. I was impressed by the facility in terms of the closeness of its praticioners and felt I had found a place to advance my understandning of the martial arts. Unfortunately I signed up for membership which unkowingly to me committed me to a full year of memebership without the ability to cancel on a month to month basis. Upon realizing of this I sent a letter asking for a cancellation of my membership. The letter was not sent certified though. So when I followed up on the letter I was told this letter was never received! When I called and requested cancellation of my membership I was told there was nothing they could do because their billing was done by an outside company, YET they were willing to take payment from me at that time during the phone call!
There was nothing I could do with them regarding my membership. Now I have been dealing with a billing agency in Colorado who recently sent me to a collections agency again in Colorado. I am currently paying off approximately 750.00 over three months for a place where I had TWO 1.5 hour sessions! The unfortunate issue is this company portrays a family atmosphere only when it is beneficial to themselves!
Legally are they in fault...no (morally...yes). I feel a business such as this should not lock in a person to a membership then make it impossible for that person to cancel/modify said membership hiding behind companies in another state! Beware of any facility with these morals and practicies!
