MARYSVILLE, OHIO -- Scotts Miracle-Gro to recall 'Shake 'n Feed'MARYSVILLE, Ohio -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says it has ordered Ohio-based Scotts Miracle-Gro and three affiliates to stop selling and using pesticides that are unregistered, mislabeled and illegal.

A spokesman for the Marysville-based lawn and garden company says it has agreed to recall "Miracle-Gro Shake 'n Feed All Purpose Plant Food plus Weed Preventer."

The EPA says the product is also sold as "Garden Weed Preventer + Plant Food."

King says the company's lawn service has also stopped using a product the EPA ordered it to stop using.

The EPA says the pesticides include invalid EPA registration numbers.

The agency and the state agriculture department are analyzing them to determine if they pose any risk.

King says the company is conducting its own investigation into the registration matter.

Just this morning, I recommended Miracle-Gro to Princi...but it looks like only this one product of theirs is being recalled...I've used their products for indoor plants and have always been very happy with the results...but thought I would forward this recall infor to those who are about to start their planting soon.

VH! I almost bought this junk last year, but thought to myself, it must be too good to be true.

Wow, I just went out and bought a bag of this exact product! Guess I'm going to go exchange it for a different Miracle-Gro tomorrow! Thanks for posting this Basher, I wouldn't have known about this otherwise.

Sam's Club pulled the item from their website.

Invalid registration numbers doesn't mean the product is particularly dangerous or harmful... it just means that the registration on the bag is outdated in needs to be rergistered... what is the product and concentration?
I would bet dollars to donuts that there is another product on the market identical to this that is made by Scott's or another company ...

EPA Orders Scotts Miracle-Gro (SMG) to Stop Selling Certain Pesticides:

Dow Jones is reporting that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today issued a "stop sale, use or removal" order against Scotts Miracle Gro (NYSE: SMG) for illegal, unregistered and misbranded pesticides. EPA will also issue a stop sale order to Scotts Lawn Care Service.

Scotts has announced that it will recall these products from all retail locations across the United States and to set up a process for consumers to safely return any unregistered products they may have purchased.

Until EPA has more information about the contents of these products, consumers are advised not to use these products and to store them in a safe, cool and dry place such as a garage or utility shed. Do not dispose of them down the drain, in the garbage or at a community disposal site.

EPA ordered Scotts and several affiliates to immediately stop selling and distributing two products which can be identified by the invalid "EPA registration number" listed on the package. Invalid registration number 62355-4 is marketed under names including "Garden Weed Preventer + Plant Food" and "Miracle Gro Shake 'n' Feed All Purpose Plant Food Plus Weed Preventer." Invalid registration number 538-304 is used primarily by Scotts Lawn Service, a lawn care company. It is marketed under names including "Scotts Lawn Service Fertilizer with .28% Halts," "Scotts Lawn Service Fertilizer 0-0-7 Plus .28% Halts Pro," "Scotts Lawn Service Fertilizer 14-2-5 Plus .28% Halts Pro" and "Scotts Lawn Service Fertilizer 22-0-8 Plus .28% Halts Pro."

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the manufacture, marketing, and sale of lawn and garden care products in North America and the European Union. [BCS]
