Angelo's Food Market Complaint - Poor Customer Service - Embarrassing!

Review by CYS on 2008-05-02
MCHENRY, ILLINOIS -- While shopping at Angelo's with my small son, I accidentally knocked a jar of salsa off a display near the checkout counters. A woman in line turned and gave me a dirty look shook her head and the cashier looked over the aisle to see what the crash was. I turned my cart around and went the opposite way due to embarrassment. The cashier walked to the head of the aisle I was in and said "This is just great! You could have caused a fall by not telling anyone!" I knew she saw the mess immediately after it happened because I saw her and the customer in line look at me and the mess.

I grabbed my son from the cart, put my head down and ran out of the store....more embarrassed then ever! I have not returned since!

If I had not at least apologized, much less offering to pay for the item, I would be embarrassed to go back also.
This has no bearing on poor customer service, just poor customer attitude. Much less acting like the op did in front of the kid.

You embarrassed yourself by not owning up to the mess in the first place. You should have been sure somebody was going to clean it up before walking away. This behavior could have caused somebody a serious injury. Apologies are a good thing too!

I can certainly understand your embarrassment for your embarrassing actions. But no use crying over spilt salsa. Let it go.

Well, at least her kid saw first hand how to handle matters like this.

I'd have told someone and offered to pay for it...accidents happen, and stores are aware of that, but someone could have slipped in it and cost the store even more money than a jar of salsa.

should have grabbed the corn chios and finished off the mess with a snack. I understand if one applogizes, it saves face.

You should be embarrassed, that's no way to be a role model for your child. You should own up to the mistake and make sure someone cleaned it up. What if while you were walking the other way because you were embarrassed a young child slipped and fell and cut himself on the broken glass?

lol mad!

The cashier was right - - you should have immediately owned up to the accident and apologized. Intead you put your head down and ran out of the store. How in the world does this fall under the category of "poor customer service"?

Accidents happen, but that was hardly an adult way to handle the situation. We were at Wal*Mart one day, and someone had knocked a big jar of pickle relish off a shelf. I found an associate (don't you love that?) as I did not want broken glass in the tires of my scooter. they are solid, but I still don't want it there. No one had reported it, and the ass. thought I had knocked it off.

The cashier was absolutely right! You should have been woman enough and told someone that you created a mess. You have no moral character whatsoever pulling that crap!! How would you have felt if someone tripped and severely injured their self? This post totally pisses me off!!! Grrrrrrr!!!

The cashier was rude to her. Yes she should have told someone, but she admitted she was embarrassed. Since the cashier knew about it right away the cashier should have said don't worry about it and called for someone to clean it up. Instead the cashier decided to embarrass her even more and make a rude comment. If a cashier said that to me I probalby would have left my cart and walked out too. Accidents happen.
