Penske Truck Rental Complaint - Beware of Penske Truck Rental - Truck Rental Quote

Truck Rental Quote - Complaint
Review by Penske Hater on 2008-05-14
I was calling all the truck rental companies to get a quote for an upcoming move. When I got to Penske Truck Rental their salesperson said he needed my debit card number to give me a quote. I thought this was a little fishy because none of the others had asked for this but he assured me that nothing would be deducted from my account. Against my better judgment I gave him my number and got my quote. I ended up going with another company and never thought about Penske again. Then about a month and a half later I had a $100.00 charge on my debit card from Penske truck rental.

When I called they said I reserved a truck and didn't cancel it so they were charging me $100.00 So beware of Penske truck rental and what ever you do do not give them any credit card info. You will regret it!

You should fight that with your bank. Getting a quote and making a reservation are two very different things.

NEVER give ANY company direct access to your checking account! NEVER!

As soon as they asked for credit/debit card information I would have scratched them off the list.

File a fraud claim with your bank.

I am a Penske Agent and to be honest, I find this story to be a bit hard to believe. A quote certainly does not require any kind of credit information. We do ask for a credit card for a confirmed reservation. Prior to your confirmed reservation you will normally receive two additional phone calls confirming your pick up and the truck you have requested one from the area office and one from the local agent. If truck's were in short supply and your reservation prevented us from serving another customer then maybe your reservation fee would be forfeited. However, even that case is fully reversible by the district manager if you have a reasonable explanation. The cut the agent would get for doing as this person suggests is so small as to be laughable. There is no way it would be worth the grief.

I am also a Penske Agent and can confirm you do not need credit card details to get a quotation. Often on local reservations we do not hold credit card information, however on one ways a small deposit maybe held. I would absolutely contact the Penske district office from which you received the quotation from and put in a formal grievance. I would never charge any customer wrongfully without correction I would hate to think any other associate anywhere in the country and beyond would.

Well I just got off the phone with a Penske agent (literally 5 minutes ago) and they in fact DID ask for my credit card information. She said that nothing would be charged (and even "promised") but I wasn't going for it. I just simply said I wasn't comfortable giving that information, especially since my move isn't for months and I was just calling to get a quote, which she then stated that she could set it up as a "cash" reservation and that I could call and change it within 48 hours of the set date for the reservation. You should have gone with your gut sir and either walked away when they asked you for the info, or just simply stated you weren't giving it up :-)
