Internal Revenue Service Informative - Major IRS Screwup - Stimulus Payments

Stimulus Payments
Review by sunnydupree on 2008-05-15
Hello out there.....

Just thought I would pass along the information. Are you wondering where your stimulus payment is? I know you are!

15,000 misrouted checks were sent out incorrectly as a result of a computer programming glitch of stimulus payments. Those receiving misdirected IRS deposits must report the mistake to their bank. And people this is not money you get to keep. Oh No! Don't make that mistake. Any money that you spend still has to be sent back to the IRS. Of course this is not the first time they have made such mistakes. So far all I have found for contact info is the same stuff you already have.

irs.gov/individuals/article/0,, id=96596,00.html, or the toll-free service Refund Hotline at 800-829-1954.

STRANGERS HAVE YOUR MONEY

Now isn't that a kick in the pants. Talk about a MAJOR SNAFU. The center is definitely not holding!

Just an addition in a long list that messes with hardworking people.
I will add more IF I find out more details.

Grace and Peace

There was also a report on the news this morning that some 350,000 checks were shorted. They are suppose to be sending out the difference in July.

Got mine yesterday via direct deposit. Yeah! Hello to the end of my credit card balance.

I got mine direct deposited. I was expecting $1200, but IRS only sent $1123 because of my last year's tax liability? Not a big deal, but I hadn't heard they were doing that, especially since I did rec'v a federal refund? Maybe someone here can answer this one for me?

Hello Ponie
What I am saying is that those checks or direct deposits sent to the wrong people by the IRS have to be sent back. The money sent in error was to wrong people therefore The IRS wants their money back. So if you spent money sent to you in error then it doesnt matter. You have to pay it back.
