Super8 motel - Columbia, SC Complaint - Condition Of Room And Staff

Review by shortcut24 on 2008-05-18
COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA -- OK, Here is the deal. My husband and I travel all 48 states,we drive an 18 wheeler. We stay at motel 6 and Super 8 because of room rates and they accept pets, and have truck parking and are clean (for the most part). May,16, 2008 we stayed at the location on Fairfield RD in Columbia, SC. The rate was 55.00 a night and 15.00 pet fee, per pet, per night. Ok, My husband checked in and I got the things ready. We got into the room and I checked things out while my husband took your dog out to use the potty. I turned down the sheets and there was black stuff all over the sheets, and make-up on the pillow cases. I immediately called the front desk and told the clerk and he told me they were just stained and re assured me they were clean. I didn't like it, at all. He never offered to bring us clean linens or accommodate us any other way. He laughed at me.He also said he was the only one working, no one else could help me.

I took pictures of cracked ceilings, goo on the elec. out lets and the yucky towels, which also I later found had black stuff "stains" on them as well. I also took pictures of the carpet where it was worn thin to the cement! I was totally disgusted! If I would have had a way to go to another hotel, other than our 18 wheeler, I would have left right then. Oh yeah, they charged me 30.00 for our two pets and I looked in the super8 book, and they were supposed to charge 10.00 pet fee, only, per visit! not 15 per pet per night!! What a disappointment!

I will NEVER, EVER, stay there again!!

You pay cheap, you get cheap. I make it a rule never to stay at a motel/hotel that allows pets. (Or advertise free Adult movies.)

Why did that post twice? Is the board on the fritz again?

Ponie, you echo my sentiments, so it was OK to say it twice.

Given the stated occupation, the poster has a great deal of experience with hotel/motel rooms. As a result, I regard this post to be one from an 'expert'. As such, I am sure the poster knows 'if you buy cheap you get cheap'. Oddly enough, it is also noteworthy that the pillowcases were stained with makeup...and pets do not generally wear makeup. Clearly this property has some 'issues'. Thank you for a genuinely great post!
