Ultimate Van Lines Complaint - Do Not Use Ultimate Van Lines - Moving

Moving - Complaint
Review by cssd on 2008-05-20
DALLAS, TEXAS -- Beware of this company. They will lowball their quote. In their quote, they failed to mention fuel surcharges and nearly $2,000 in packaging and materials.

In addition, they underestimated the weight of our move by over 30%, despite the fact that we disclosed all furniture and large items and were only 20 boxes over our initial estimate (I doubt that each box weighed 130 pounds). They clearly lowballed the weight to get the quote.

The movers did not show up on the estimated date of delivery. They were impossible to get in touch with. When we finally got a hold of them, we got the runaround. They showed up the next day and refused to give us the "7 day guarantee" on the original delivery date because they claimed that they tried to schedule the move for after 5PM on the scheduled date. First of all, this never happened and secondly, were they really planning on starting the move at 5PM?

A horrible, unethical company. The actual moving cost was double their quote. Beware!
Company Response:
Ultimate Vanlines is working by weight Estimates. all prices given is including: Full door to door serivce. Loading and Unloading. Disssembling and Reasembling. Basic Packing (Moving Pads,Blankets) Fuel charge,Tolls and Taxes. $50K Insurance. 1 month Free Storage (Climate Controlled). on the contract is written regarding special packing & material. The customer is getting a base qoute which is binded to the weight that is discussed with the customer. on pick up day the truck gets weighed. so, the customer can pay for any extra weight by the rate that was originaly set. i don't understand why you consider that to be a ripoff, you pay for what you deliver. if you had a double amount of poundage, you need to pay extra. furthermore, promises for delivery time is exaggerated, we give a window of 1-21 days from the open scheduele, and you can also close a date for a fee. Regarding the tip, It's nice to tip a hardworking man, It's a choice that you can make of course. Our Main focus is 100% customer satisfaction.
