Home Depot Complaint - Work For Home Depot? -- Don't Do It!
You need a full or part-time job and you're a people person. You want a company that appreciates your talents & dedication, and also treats you fairly. Well, my "Halloween" experience at Home Depot is a "black" period in an "orange" box!
Of course, I'm not bringing anything new to the forefront of complaints about this company --it is on-going and has been on a downward spiral for years. An employer can't attract good associates when word gets around how poorly they are dealt with. Promises and policies mean nothing, so don't count on them. Home Depot is deceptive about scheduling, overtime, seasonal transfer, performance review & raises, and benefits, etc.. First, don't count on your hours - they change at the whim of the store's volume. However, if they need you to fill with extra hours, it's on their terms and carefully manipulated so it's never overtime. Don't volunteer for anything -- it's just taken for granted.
Years ago, the Home Depot would have a transfer policy whereby an employee could transfer out of the area store to another location for a brief period ( a win-win situation based on seasonal volume)and return to the original location. Forget it!...they will deny you a position when you return, and lie about your employment so you may not be eligible for unemployment. Beware and get everything in writing!
Policy states you will have regular reviews and periodic wage increases. They are not in line with cost-of-living increases. When the price of gas, health insurance, etc. is climbing by double digits, .04% is nothing.
When you are no longer part of the "family" and you continue on Cobra benefits, watch out!! In my case, my monthly payments were credited to another associates account by Home Depot's bank. Reviewing that account, they initiated a "refund" to that employee, since the record showed he owed nothing. I faxed the front& back of my check to prove my "innocence", and confirmed it was not my problem. Then I was actually told by a Benefits Choice representative that Home Depot and the bank do not have the $$$. As soon as they "get the money back" from the other associate, they will credit my account. I'm still waiting. For the sake of time and everyone's sanity, this is where my story will end on My 3 Cents, and where my attorneys will take over.
Good luck to all of you -- may you find the job that is worthy of your skills and the employer who recognizes your attributes. A great company knows how to treat & keep you. My advice--forget the orange apron!
