Premier Wellness Center Complaint - False And Deceptive Sales And Billing Practices

Review by BobDee on 2008-05-25
HALLANDALE, FLORIDA -- Before setting up appointment I provided this chiropractic medical office with my Blue Cross Blue shield insurance card and account information. I was assured by the office that they were a preferred provider for BLBS and that my only charge would be my copayment. also, upon arrival at the appointed date and time I verified coverage with the office and that I would not receive any balanced billing.

I was quite shocked to receive a notice approximately 3 weeks later from a collection agency. This office put me directly into collections. They charged the insurance company $335 dollars and didn't allow for all charges. It is interesting to note that my visits to Dr. (snip) were never more than $35 an office visit including treatment prior to this for almost 15 years. Does anyone wonder why millions of Americans are priced out of health insurance? This is but one reason why

The most puzzling aspect of this review is that the chiropractor immediately sent the bill to collections. Chiropractors LIVE for return visits and are very careful about protecting relationships with established patients (families are often sources of referrals). It is virtually impossible for any healthcare provider to absolutely guarantee that a patient will not owe more than a co-pay or deductible. Any provider making such statements to patients is doing them a great disservice. After all, EVERY patient signs a financial responsibility form saying something like, "Pre-certification or the presence of an active insurance policy does not guarantee payment. Therefore, the patient (name) understands and agrees to be financially responsible for any unpaid portion of the incurred charges." This post was helpful.
