Circuit City Complaint - Horrible Circuit City Experience
ROCKWALL, TEXAS -- Today we purchased a 58" Samsung plasma TV from the Rockwall Circuit City 3577. We were told ours was the last available set. Before they even brought it out they said that the box was damaged and that they were checking it out. Within 2 minutes they brought the set out saying that the box didn't appear to be badly damaged and that "everything should be fine". We transported the set home using every precaution stipulated for a plasma TV. When we removed the wrapper at home - it had not previously been removed, the set was cracked in numerous places across the screen. Within minutes we contacted the manager with whom we had dealt -Gabe and were instructed to bring the set back.
We were told that he was looking for another set at a different store and if one could not be found a refund would be issued. When we arrived at the store Gabe had gone home and Max the assistant manager was there. We were informed that no other sets were available and we had "no choice" but to accept the floor sample for a $300 discount or accept a store credit. No refund would be given because the television was not damaged when it left the store.
As an aside the box was clearly damaged and the set not inspected only the box, further we had been told "everything would be all right". Max would not let us speak with Gabe saying that the request was "unreasonable". After being informed that we would pursue a chargeback with our credit card company, Max issued a refund declaring for the record that the set was defective. He further instructed us that we were no longer welcome to shop at "his" store. We have never in all our years 40+ years as consumers been banned from any establishment nor been treated with such shabby disregard.
I am appalled at the treatment we received and even more concerned that without our credit card companies backing we would have been powerless to rectify the clearly unjust situation. We never raised our voices or were in any way disruptive. We were sold a defective - damaged TV told to return it for a refund and then denied that refund, given no recourse and then because we would not agree to those terms banned from the store.
