Innova Electronics Corp. Compliment - The OBD2 Code Reader 3100 Really Does Save You $$$$
As you all know, Basher's car has been having one issue after another...Our dear Pirate had suggested, told me then DEMANDED me to get one of those Code Reader machines. I kept putting it off, thinking that's a "guy thing"...but finally after being charged $65-$70 every time my "Check Engine" Light came on, just to have my car taken in and hooked up to one of those, I decided, "What the heck"...he was never gonna let me get away with what he called, "Wasting your money". And he promised me that it would pay for itself in no time. He told me I can get one for around a hundred bucks.
So...I went on Amazon.Com and found The Innova Electronics Digital Can OBD2 Code Reader with the CD, manual and all the cables needed for $95.00. I used my Amazon gift certificate I had and also got free shipping with it. (It cost $192.50 from the Innova website). Please note this is only used on cars from 1996 to present.
I got it a couple of weeks ago...but tonight was the first time I had to use it. My "Check Engine" Light came on. It's a simple little machine, not much bigger than a hand held calculator...has a large easy to read LCD screen. Hooks right up under the steering wheel. Just plug in the cable, start the car an in less than two minutes, it will scan and read and display any codes.

As Pirate told me, I can check this myself to make sure the mechanics are not ripping me off by charging me for unnecessary work.
I got a code (P0420) Catalyst System reading. Now, this is the same thing I had just checked out a month ago...after paying $70 for the mechanic to check with his code reader. I was told, it was nothing to be real concerned about, it's not going to cause the car to break down somewhere and I can drive it for another year without getting the $700 job done (The other mechanic was going to charge me $1100.00 and said it needed to be done NOW). I was told to just have someone take the car on the highway and blow it out...but it will have to be taken care of before my next ECheck. He deleted the code and I went on my way.
Tonight...thanks to Pirate, I saved $70, for a reading that was just done a month ago, and erased the code myself.
Great little product and I recommend anyone with a car 1996 and newer to invest in one...you can use it for anyone in your family who has a car of those years and a "check engine" light that comes on.
.....is it any wonder why the Basher misses Pirate?.......Thanks Pirate!
