Gold's Gym International, Inc Complaint - Cancelling Membership
BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA -- In Feb. 2006, I signed up for a 1 year "student" membership to Gold's Gym. In January of 2007, I went by to talk to them about canceling because I had heard stories of gyms renewing gym memberships when contracts expired. I didn't want to be tied in for another year. I spoke with one of their reps who told me that my contract would go to a month-by-month and I could cancel at anytime.
So I decided to just continue using it. I keep going for about three months. Then I moved and I moved again. Each time it was a little less further out of my way to go.
In March 2008.... two years and one month after I started going to Golds, I finally when to cancel my membership. Then I was told that I would have to wait until May 2008! Because they said their records said I had a 24 month contract that was over in MAY!
I had a copy of my contract and I got it out when I got home and struggled to read the scribble that was the ending date of my contract. Strangely the rest of it was very easy to read. I brought in my billing statements to show them that I had been billed in February of 2006. Only to be told that that was part of a "special" and that the 24 started when it was regular priced.
So I went in May canceled... they told me that there was a 30 cancellation period. But they are still billing me.
Please Please Please ask someone for you sign up for a gym membership anyway. I don't know ANYONE that has had a good experience with Golds.
