Restaurant - Service Industry Informative - Every Coin Has 2 Sides
I love to read complaints about restaurants. Each story I read I see it playing out in my mind. I've met each of these guests in one way or another. I usually have an explanation as to what REALLY happened, but that isn't what people want to hear. They harbor that anger toward the strangers that ruined their life by cooking there steak to Med Well when they specifically asked for it Med Well but wanted burnt beyond recognition as a piece of meat. Some people just LOVE to go to restaurants and complain. You can see that glint of anger and glee at times when they walk in the door and spot there server. "OMG I had to wait 20 min for a table on a Friday night at 7pm...My food came out 2 min after my appetizer..." You know who has zero control over the volume of guest, and making your food and your drinks? Your server. Do you know who has 6 other tables with just as many needs as you? Your server. Yes news flash****YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY TABLE IN THE RESTAURANT**** I am not going to say that all complaints are not valid.
I've seen my share of mishaps, but that is exactly what they are mishaps. It is ok to complain. How else is the management going to know that they might need an extra person on that night, that the kitchen isn’t doing so hot, or that maybe the server needs a little more training or less tables. You don’t need yell, use foul language, or cause a seen. To have real content in your heart and mind toward a person who doesn't know you from Adam though is just silly. I'm going to let you in on something...
Your server 9 out of 10 times does not hold any opinion about you. No one in that store has a vendetta against you. When you leave they won't remember you. You might as well have a big 'ol dollar sign tattoo on your forehead. Oh, and that other 1 out of 10, that’s Ted, he comes in all the time and is on a first name basis with all the servers. Everyone else is their bread and butter. Servers make $2.18/hr plus tips...TIPS! I think it is so funny when people say their server was rude. Yes that’s right, as a server they woke up that morning and said,” You know I don't think I want to make any money to pay my bills today. I think I'm going to waste money on gas to go to work, and then be SO RUDE, especially if “your name here” comes in."
