Dish Network Informative - Taking Money From My Bank Acct Without My Authorization
PENNSYLVANIA -- I have had dish network for almost 2 yrs through my phone service. I had no contract w/ dish I pd monthly. I canceled my phone service but still wanted dish. So I had to wait for the package to "debundle." I was also told I had a $65 credit w/ dish. Today I went to use my debit card and it was declined. I looked online and dish network took out $500. I didn't authorize it and was wondering why they would do this. I called dish and to no avail got someone who spoke broken English twice. the 2nd was supposed to be a supervisor but he did nothing. he said I had to return the equipment and thats why I was charged this fee....meanwhile I'm waiting for the services to be turned on and seeing as I didn't owe them any money. I said I had no idea you wanted the equip back considering I'm waiting for my dish to be turned back on. He said the boxes were sent to my address and should receive them today...I did. He also said they wouldn't cover NSF fees from my acct that they made go negative. He told me it was b/c I broke the contract...which is a lie b/c I didn't have a contract or sign a contract.
My boyfriend decided to call in and got a woman who did speak English and said no you didn't break the contract b/c you didn't have one.(duh) But they were charging us for the equip. He explained that we were waiting for the service to be turned back on....which they said they would if we pd $225 for the first 2mths bill and reconnect fee. He said absolutely not after you taking money out of my acct w/out my consent. So he said he had contacted our lawyer and the attitude changed a little....but not very much. He got xferd like 4 times, all because he wanted a copy of the contract we signed saying that they could charge our acct for this....(considering there isn't a contract that either of us signed I'm wondering how they're going to get it) well conveniently they said it would take up to 2-3 weeks to get it.....why? I'm not sure it should be on file w/ our acct.
I have filed a complaint w/ our bank, but I'm thinking I'm going to have to close my acct. This will cause so much inconvenience since b/c we'll have to spend $ on new checks get new cards switch our direct deposits over.
I'm going back to cable and never will I ever give my acct # to anyone or anybody.
I don't understand how they can get away w/ this and not get into trouble...they stole money out of my acct w/out giving any notification (they say they don't have to) and I have been charged a $36 fee at least 6 times not to mention the checks that are sent out and haven't cleared.
