SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA -- Prior to being diagnosed with Dementure (she has since died) my mother made the bank her beneficiary on her group life insurance policy.
She was already having problems with her memory prior to being diagnozed with dementure.
After being diagnosed with dementure her beneficiary was changed from the bank to her son after receiving temporary guardianship from the Florida courts (temp guardianship was given to my wife I was my mothers health care agent(you cannot be both under Florida law).
The insurance company Metlife refuses to honor the court appointed guardianship and recognizing her son as the legal beneficiary.
What or who can I contact to pursue this problem? Will the Insurance Commissioner be a good place to start?
Phoned MetLife at 1-800-638-6420 for an email address and I was told they only communicate by phone.
