Medco Informative - Customer Warning - 90 Day By Mail Prescription Rip Off
This is a Medco by mail warning.
Understand that if you receive by mail a 90 day incorrect prescription it is your problem you are held responsible for the cost of that prescription. A doctor in my practice, NOT MY PRIMARY CARE, send through a prescription for a drug I had not requested. (My Primary Care checked and didn't know why the other did it. His response was a shrug.) However, since it was a "valid" ( read: legal) prescription, it was at my cost which was $170. The fact that it was not a drug I am taking was not relevant. And until I pay the $170 "co-pay", my prescription drug coverage was placed on hold my Medco. I was no longer able to receive the medications I need at co-pay costs.
At a pharmacy you can hand an incorrect prescription back to the pharmacist. Medco's 90 day prescriptions come in the mail and are not returnable You are the last stop on this chain of action and it's your problem.
Medco will save you $5 here and there, but eventually you will pay the price.
Each plan is administered differently. My plan, after 3 refills, Medco blocks you from using a local pharmacy. At that point for insurance coverage you must use Medco by mail. Therefore, I no longer have prescription coverage for my blood pressure medicine. I guess in the typical American style, it's far more logical for me to stop those meds, have a stroke and then allow the medical cost to roll to my healthcare coverage, rather than offering a fair solution to this issue.
