Allied Home Warranty Complaint - Do Not Buy A Residential Services Contract From Allied Home Warranty - Home Warranty

Complaint
Review by Edan on 2008-06-20
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- Do not purchase a home warranty from Allied Home Warranty company in Texas. They will stick you with what they call “non covered” items that they arbitrarily impose and are not listed in their “non covered items” clause in the contract. They will not look out for your best interests as is their duty under the contract. One Allied employee even admitted to me when I questioned the A/C company that they were using(because we had specifically requested that they not use this particular company as they had sent them in the past and they were a disaster) that, “it is in Allied’s best interest to use this company”. After imposing all sorts of “non covered” charges for the replacement of an A/C unit, to the tune of $825, we consulted with an A/C company who advised us that most of those items were unnecessary.

Therefore, we asked to see the quotes from the A/C company that they were using as proof that those items were quoted and necessary. They refused to provide us with that information, yet required that we pay $825 if we wanted coverage under the contract. We contacted the A/C company independently and they provided us with the quote that they had given to Allied which only contained $160.00 in non-covered charges, yet we were charged $825.00 by Allied. That is precisely why they did not want us to see the quote. When the A/C technician from the company they chose (different from the one they sent originally and who sent us the quote independently) came out to install the new unit, he admitted to us that he had not done some of the things that we had paid the $825.00 for because they were not needed.

We made many attempts to resolve this matter with Allied and they were unwilling to recognize our arguments and make concessions. We believe that they have been deceptive in our dealings and have acted in bad faith and we will be pursuing complaints with the Attorney General and possibly other avenues.

Same problem here! They want $825.00. I took every item listed and priced them at GRAINGER supply which totaled $307.29. But we only need $79.59 out of the list! We also are not 'upgrading.' We are replacing a 13 SEER condenser R-22 with another 13 SEER condenser with R-22. Their "cost" is not based on anything real. They can not justify the price. It looks like a rip-off profit point only. This is not how the warrantee is sold. Do you have more information? What did the attorney general say?

Many home warranty companies do this and it is common practice to deny claims for no good reasons. You are not alone experiencing problems with Allied home warranty. I have shared my experiences here

I've had an Allied Home Warranty for two years and compared to the national companies they were the most helpful and covered the majority of my claims. People who understand how a warranty is beneficial would choose Allied over my previous company, American Home Shield.

yeah, i don't think these users have read the contract or understand enough about HVAC to make these comments...i don't know what they want for $350 but it can't be everything

i have firends that work in appartment maintenance and they said that r-22 is going to be faded out at the yerar end of 2009 and that the 410 a is going to be the new refridgerant used so any rplacement using r-22 will be outdated years end. you can still get the r-22 but at a higher price. SO, my 1 1/2 ton unit they wanted to charge me for uncovered items was $850.00 and they were going to put in a fedder unit. I priced them online from 499.00 to 547.00 then I got a quote from an independant comnpany of 400.00 to install. the uncovered items they wanted to charge me for like removal of old unit, acid wash, things I could do myself they were still going to charge me for wether or not the work was done by the tech. Hear me? Charge me for work not done. File on the better buisness Bureau at bbb.org and ALSO consumer protection division of the Office of the Attorney General at www.oag.state.tx.org.
