Reliable Service Company Complaint - No Itemized Receipt And
LAKESIDE, CALIFORNIA -- I called Reliable Service Company because of the full page ad in the yellow pages. A service man came out to repair my dryer. He came in asked where the dryer was, turned on the dryer, and then used the bathroom for 5 minutes. When he came out he opened up the front of the dryer and took out some lint with his hand. I walked away and did not watch him, but he was done in 5 minutes. He handed me a bill for $380.oo. I was really surprised at the bill because when I called I was told that the service charge was $49.95, unless they did some work ; then there was no service charge.
But I was glad to have the dryer working and so I put the charge on my credit card. I asked him how much the part was and he said $200.00, and the service was $ 180.00. I said that that was really high, and he answered that Sears would charge $200.00 to just show up at the door. He gave me a receipt and quickly left. The whole encounter was odd. The receipt had nothing itemized on it, only a charge for $380.00. That really bothered me. He said that he replaced an electric pilot assembly.
Then I got to thinking that I never saw him bring in any tool kit or anything else, or leave with anything either. I decide that I would go to the business and find out how much the part was and what it looked like. He never gave me back mine or even mentioned it. So, I looked the dryer over to see how it was working and realized that I still could not use it as the vent hose was not connected. So I called Reliable back. They took my zip code and said that the service man would call me back. He called me back in 10 minutes. He did not remember me! ? I said that he'd just been at my house and repaired my dryer but that it still did not work because the vent hose was not connected. He said that it was $89.95 for him to return to fix the hose. I said that he should have fixed it when he was here the first time. He said that he fixed the dryer, as I requested and that the vent hose was not what he was there to fix. I told him that that was unacceptable and that I was going to talk to his boss.
However, when I went to Reliable Service company I discovered that he was the owner/operator. He runs his business out of a small dumpy office in El Cajon, off of Magnolia Ave. He was not happy to see me. I told him that I wanted an itemized receipt and the part back that he had "replaced" from my washer. He started yelling at me that I was trying to cheat him and that I did not want to pay the money for having the dryer fixed. ( I never mentioned anything about money) I had to keep repeating ( say it, wait 5 seconds, say it wait 5 seconds ...) that I wanted the receipt and the part back. He angrily made a receipt complaining and telling me that I came to his place of work to make trouble for him and he'd dealt with lots of people like me , etc. He made a new receipt which had a lot of writing on it. He said that if I wanted the part back I had to initial here and sign there.
I took the receipt out of his hand to read it( he did not like that ) I saw the original receipt on the other side of where he was standing. I moved around and went to pick it up. He lunged for the receipt and yelled that I could not have two receipts! I had it in my hand and said that my credit card info was on that receipt and that it was mine. He screamed," no!no! you can not have two receipts. You will not get your part back. " I looked at him and said that I would see him in court and told him to tell me his name. He pointed to his shirt and said my name is *****. He is middle eastern so I know that that is not his real name. I asked him for his last name and he said that he did not have to tell me anything. I said that I would go to the County Records and get it anyway. He said to go ahead, and that he deals with trouble makers like me all the time.
