LifeLock Informative - Identity Theft - Credit Fraud Monitoring

Credit Fraud Monitoring
Review by datoad on 2008-06-22
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Lifelock sounds good but why spend $100 a year when you can go to AnnualCreditReport.com once a year and get free reports from all three credit monitoring agencies? You also can get a report anytime for $5.95 or so. Sounds like a waste of money but if you are too busy or lazy to monitor your own credit then it might be for you

I have never used their service, but they way I understand it, Lifelock puts a freeze on your credit record that stops anyone from opening an account in your name unless they call you first for authorization.

These freezes are meant to be temporary and they will drop off it you aren't diligent about them. You are paying Lifelock to make sure the freeze stays in place and to assist you if someone does manage to get thru and steal your identity.

I've read that there are lawsuits regarding the lifelock services. Apparently even the owner/developer has had his identity stolen. In theory the service is ideal but as consumers we have to pay close attention to our credit reports and safeguard our information. Its on us guys... there are no quick fixes or sure things.

Lielock does not put a freeze on your credit file. It puts a Fraud Alert on your credit files. Big difference. A freeze keeps anyone from accessing your credit file. A Fraud Alert still allows access and is ignored by many credit grantors.

I have a freeze on my accounts at the 3 major credit bureaus so nobody can access my accounts without my permission (I have to give them a pass code). The cost was $10 per credit bureau.

But they also throw in the reduction of credit card offers in the mail (another free service). Everything that they do is free to do yourself.

LifeLock is a scam. They do what you can do yourself. The company has been around a year or so and has thousands of lawsuits pending against them. Just shows you how the operate.
