Delta Airlines Complaint - Undisclosed Fees: Award Ticket Costing More Than Actual Ticket!
I recently called up Delta to book a flight using airmiles. I had requested comparisons of flying with and without miles. The basic result being that I could pay ~$520 for tickets, or pay $273 with airmiles (taxes, fees, etc.) As I had a fair amount of miles built up, I decided to go with the airmiles option and save $250.
One day before the flight, I noticed that my credit card had been charged $520. When I called to inquire, I was told that I was charged
$125 in fees per ticket, bringing the total to $520.
I asked how that could happen - as I wasn't told about the fees, and the total ended up costing exactly what I would have been charged to buy the tickets, only this time I had the added pleasure of spending 40,000 miles for nothing!!
Despite it being 8 hours before the flight, I asked for a refund as I could still buy tickets online for $520. I was told that even though I wasn't told about the fees, and even though I was charged 40,000 miles for no benefit, I couldn't have the fees refunded.
It is absurd that Delta can freely charge what it likes for fees, not disclose them, and then claim they are non-refundable. In addition, it is absurd that they would charge more for an award ticket than to actually buy the real ticket.
I'd be interested to hear if others have had a similar problem of non-disclosed fees...
