Ace Hardware Corporation Informative - Refuse To Take It Back - Level

Level
Review by IObikhod on 2008-06-29
DULUTH, GEORGIA -- Hello. My wife bought a level at Ace Hardware, apparently it wasn't the one I needed. So I didn't used just lay it near I was laying the tile. Some of the spackle got on it. When I took it back manager refuse to accept it. I told him that I never used it doesn't have any scratches or anything just the spackle. I went home and cleaned it. Took it back again he still refuse to take and he was saying that I used it. I told him that I didn't use it. So he didn't take it. I asked for the corporate phone number, he gave me owners phone number. I called the owner and talk to him. He said that he wouldn't take it back since it was used, I told him the story over again. He still refuse to take, I told him that next time I would go to Home Depot and buy there they don't have any problem taking it back. He said "Do what you have to do".

I guess Ace Hardware never care about their customers. From now on I would go an extra couple mile to Home Depot than buy anything at Ace.

Maybe the owner at ACE has had people buy the tools needed for a home reapir job then return them when the job is done to many times. I can see your point and his. A store credit would have maybe been in order in this case.

If you are so sure Home Depot will return anything why don't you return your item there. Since you feel they have good customer service you should have no problem returning a used item without the receipt.

what an idiot? Do you like to pay for something new and find spackle on it? The next guy is going to ask for a discount of course. Its jerks like you that have forced retailers to deny refunds or returns. Even your beloved Home Depot won't take back generators or certain items especially right after a power outage.

Somehow, I'm doubting Home Depot would take anything back with spackle on it. I'm sure you wouldn't want to buy something that had spackle on it. I think the only tools in your house might not be the ones you use in construction.

Was the area you laid it, level?
I'm sure they don't mind losing a customer that "borrows" their tools...

Good grief...

Poster....next time....go rent the tools from a rental place. I wouldn't let you return the level either. I would have told you "tough shyt..its yours now".

Look at it this way; would you go to a store and choose a level off the shelf with spackle on it? No, you'd want something that looked new since you are paying "new" price.

Took the dirty level back. It was refused. Cleaned the level and took it back again. Refused again. Perhaps if the level was cleaned properly the first time, there would have been no problem. If it could not be cleaned to 'like new' condition, it is 'used' and should not be eligible for return. Next time, clean the item before you take it back. Then, stand back and objectively ask yourself, "Would I buy this item at full price?" If the answer is 'no'...you have something to sell at your next garage sale.

You would have been more believable if you had tried to exchange it for the one you "needed".
