DirecTV Inc Complaint - Unethical Fraud
I have 4 Direct TV Receivers and service in my home. 2 receivers failed last week. I went to Circuit City and paid $300.00 for 2 new receivers. Upon calling Direct TV to activate 1 receiver I gave them the old receiver serial number and the new receiver serial number and card number and they activated it. A week later when I called to deactivate the second defective receiver and activate the new receiver I was informed that I did not own the new equipment and was only leasing it and must pay for the lease.
I was also informed that I had agree to a 2 year contract. Since my monthly bill
is $150.00 that amounts to a $3,600.00 contract along with a lease payment just to replace defective equipment using service I am already paying for. Since I have been a customer since 1996 Direct TV already received the 2 year service contract from me 10 years ago.
Direct TV is denying me service I am and have been paying for, for 12 years.
Unless I agree to a $3600.00 dollar contract they refuse to activate my replacement equipment. Furthermore Direct TV changed their policies and did not inform me of this commitment when I activated the first receiver.
Under NO circumstances would I have agreed to extend my contract. As a matter of FACT under no circumstances did I. The facts are that I wasn't signing up for additional service or boxes for a different room, there was no reason to extend my contract.
Does Direct TV need to treat 12 year old customers this way? Am I to understand that any changes to my service such as additions or failed equipment will put me on the hook for years?
Making someone commit to years of service by way of denying them service
they are already paying for is unethical and is done under duress by way of
refusing said service.
