AARP Complaint - AARP -- A Forgotten Mission!
This organization, established to make it easier for seniors to obtain products and share information seems to have lost its way. Everything now looks like a profit center -- insurance of all kinds, credit card promotions, investments, etc.
This week they sent a request for renewal of membership four (4) months in advance (arrived in June for November), and the current cards just arrived a few weeks ago! Of course, many older people who don't keep up will simply send in their money and AARP will have another big pot from which to earn interest. The credit card they promote (and only one!) charges high fees for ATM withdrawals. I stopped using it several years ago, and asked AARP to negotiate a better deal for seniors.
I suspect they get some kind of referral fee for using their logo (which some might call a kickback -- oops, "marketing fee.") What gives?
Has it become so big and money-driven that it has forgotten why it exists? I think so.
