RCA Complaint - Junk!!!! - 26" LCD HDTV

26" LCD HDTV - Complaint
Review by huskeraj on 2008-07-04
Where do I begin with this company. We bought a 26" LCD HDTV in 2006, Almost a year to the day later it broke. For a fee they replaced it (we payed for shipping), almost a year to the day later this 1 broke. The first 1 went out completely, the second 1 won't stop scanning thru channels. RCA will not release the manuals to TV repair shops, to fix them. They want us to send this 1 back in and of course want us to pay shipping again. It's a huge red flag to me when they don't release manuals to repair shops. I advise anyone I talk to to NEVER EVER buy anything made by RCA. It's junk, and they do nothing to make things right. People wonder why nobody buys American anymore, well here's a good example. My other 2 Japanese made TVs have never failed me.

I've had my Daewoo TV for 5 years, never 1 problem. So if you pick RCA be advised you might as well burn your money!!!

That RCA TV is probably made in China. I don't think TV sets are manufactured in the USA any longer. I know that GE/RCA once had factory service centers coast to coast; whether they are still around I don't know offhand. If RCA still has a local factory service center in your area, give them a call.

RCA is just a name. Last I heard, RCA sets were manufactured by Thomson (French), under license, in factories all over the globe. And are you saying that they'll replace the set if you just pay shipping? Compared to what people who buy low-end sets get, that's a pretty sweet deal. (Just look up Polaroid on this site)

www.eserviceinfo.com and search for your model.

I want to comment on trixta's comment. Yes i am finding out that RCA does have plants all over. I guess that's not really my point. My point is I have now owned 2 RCA tvs' in the past 2 years, both broke, they make it very difficult to have them fixed, because they don't release their manuals to authorized RCA dealers, to fix them. This is very frustrating because I believe the problem with my current RCA is a minor problem that could probably be fixed rather easy, and cheap. Instead they want you to pack it up ship it back pay for shipping, and yes also pay for the replacement set. In all I am looking at around $400, and to me that is not a sweet deal. Especially the 2nd time in 2 years. So for the original set I bought for $1000, it will now cost me nearly another $800 after going thru this crap again. So that is my major gripe. They make it very difficult to fix what I think is a very minor problem.

How do you know that authorized RCA repair shops don't have manuals? It would be rather absurd for RCA to do such a thing. BTW I found a few more web pages that offer repair manuals for RCA LCD models.

Responding to passingby....I know that the repair shop that i contacted in my town does not have the repair manual for my model, because they told me they don't. When I checked with them about getting it fixed they informed me that RCA would not give them the manual, because their policy on that model is to replace them. Speaking of absurd, to me this is absurd. By the way if you know where I can get the manual for my model TV, I would like to know where????

PassingBy, sorry I missed your first response.

huskeraj, rather than come back with more moaning and groaning, why didn't you just go to the site PassingBy supplied?

'...RCA would not give them the manual...' RCA doesn't have to give them the manual, either you or they can go online and get one. You seem to have access to a computer--so use it.

Ponie, I did check passingbys' site that he supplied, as did I your suggestion, there is no manual for my model TV there. Actually what I need is the service manual, I have the owners manual. I checked every site I can think of, even e-bay...nothing. Actually I have a pretty good idea that I may need a new motherboard, which I am sure I won't find anywhere either. I e-mailed RCA to inquire about getting 1, but I'm sure that will be a dead end. And by the way I don't feel I am moaning and groining. All I am doing is telling people my experience with RCA....and to beware when you buy from them...isn't that what this website is all about....my 3 cents????

Nowhere did you respond that you checked the site supplied by PassingBy. Before I posted the site I mentioned, I checked to see that it was what you'd be looking for. Two months ago I purchased a TV. The service manual for my set is available from them. Of course, it costs $24.95 but most text books come with a price.
